The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is firing back at dissenters who claim he doesn't deserve the honor.

When the School of the Art Institute of Chicago said they’d be giving Kanye West an honorary doctorate at this year’s commencement ceremony, some people from the school criticized the decision to honor Yeezy.

“There’s still this sense that high art is what we do, is what we honor, is what we’re about and that pop culture is not what we teach in art school,” the institute’s Dean of Faculty, Lisa Wainwright, said in an interview with Fader. “I think that’s a problem. We’re trying to collapse those boundaries a little bit. That’s what I like about Kanye.”
